The Khajuraho temples were built by the Chandela dynasty between about 950 and 1050 CE in sandstone, in the Nagara style.

Groups: Western (Kandariya Mahadeva, Lakshmana, Vishvanatha), Eastern (Javari, Jain temples) and Southern (Duladeva, Chaturbhuja).

Early mentions appear in the accounts of Al-Biruni (1022 CE) and Ibn Battuta (1335 CE).

British engineer T.S. Burt brought the temples to wider notice in 1838; Alexander Cunningham later documented them.

Static GK: The Khajuraho Group of Monuments was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986.
